Bedømmelsesudvalg, Uddannelsescenteret i Marknagil.

Vortex

Bjarke Ingels, Ledende Partner i BIG.

Jakup Pauli Johannesen, Partner, Fuglark Arkitekter

Good companies invent.
Profitable companies steal, and even take patent on what they have stolen!

DON’T MAKE IT POSSIBLE!!!

Microsoft Files Patent Claim for Edward Tufte’s Sparklines: ”

Ridiculous. It seems as though they’re not trying to patent sparklines in general, but rather the specific idea of sparklines embedded in a spreadsheet grid, but still.

Here’s Microsoft’s write-up on the feature. Looks great. Excel has always been my favorite app from Microsoft.

Guy Kawasaki: How To Get Famous And Make Millions With Twitter: ”

Guy Kawasaki

Even if you personally consider Twitter an annoying pop culture trend, you can’t argue against its power to reach thousands of people in seconds, for free — making it a perfect marketing tool for a small business.

Serial entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki promotes his newest company, Alltop, by tweeting 140 character notes to 190,000 followers on Twitter.

Here, he offers his advice on using Twitter as a marketing tool.

From OPEN Forum:

Question: What Twitter applications do you use?

Answer: For reading, I use TweetDeck on my Macintosh and Tweetie on my iPhone.
For posting, I use Objective Marketer and Posterous.

Objective enables me to create marketing campaigns and then schedule, frame, repeat, and track tweets. (Disclosure: I am an advisor to Objective.) It is the foundation of my Twitter efforts.

Posterous powers a part of Alltop called Holy Kaw; this sub-domain is a collection of summaries of the third-party sites that I am tweeting about. (Disclosure: I am an investor in Posterous.)

Finally, I use SocialToo to automatically follow people who follow me and to kill spam direct messages.

Question: Do you recommmend that companies repeat their tweets?

Answer: Yes, if they want to ensure that as many followers see their tweets as possible. There will be tiny number of people who will complain, but you cannot make all your followers happy. In fact, if you’re not pissing someone off on Twitter, you’re not using it to its fullest potential. Companies should not let a few angry people dictate their marketing practices.

Question: How can you follow more than 180,000 people?

Answer: I don’t read the timelines of all the people that I follow. Instead, I only deal with @s, direct messages, and tweets that contain ‘guykawasaki,’ ‘alltop,’ or ‘guysreplies.’ I answer almost every @ and direct.

Question: If a company wants an active, aggressive presence on Twitter, how many people does it take?

Answer: One person working really hard, unencumbered by a clueless boss and a Luddite legal department, can do it. Certainly one person can get things going enough to prove that Twitter makes sense for a company to add more people to do it even better.

Question: Why do you constantly promote Alltop?

Answer: Twitter is a means to an end: Alltop’s success. This is why I put so much time, energy, and money (my ghosts don’t work for free) into it. The Alltop promotion justifies and pays for the efforts all five of us. You can think of my tweets as PBS content and the accompanying Alltop promotion as the fundraising telethon.

New York officially bans texting while driving: ”

Section: Communications, Cellphones, Email / IM, Mobile, Gadgets / Other, Transportation

New York State has just added a new law that further bans the use of cell phones while driving. Effective immediately, drivers can no longer text while driving and if they are caught doing so they face a fine of up to $150.

While a great law, for me this always goes back to common sense. Personally, I do not mind seeing laws like this but at the same time hate seeing laws that are passed that should just be common sense. Bottom line, it is not safe to text and drive.

Of course, this like many other offenses this is considered a secondary violation. Which technically means that you cannot be pulled over for texting and driving alone. The officer would also need another reason, that said, it seems safe to believe that they could most likely find something. After all, no driver is perfect.

Anyway, the real strange part here is that this texting and driving ban comes a long time after, in fact it comes years after they banned talking while driving. I guess we can just say, better late than never.

Microsoft’s Online Services Division Losses Grow: ”

Charles Arthur:

But what about the Online Services division? Different story.
$490m revenue — which is down from $520m in the same period
last year — and losses of $480m, an increase against last year’s
$381m loss.

In other words, for every $1 that Microsoft’s online services
division brought in, it spent $2.

The harder they chase Google, the worse it gets for them.

Update: Silicon Alley Insider has a graph of Microsoft’s online division results since 2005.
